Google Chrome removes ‘http://facebook.com/’ from URL bar

In Technology on March 2, 2011 at 8:50 am

The URL field of Google Chrome will no longer display the “http://facebook.com/” portion of URLs as of today’s update.

Google’s reasons that, for most people, the first part of the URL holds little meaning.

“This is going to save me so much time,” said Kimberly Faustino, an avid Internet user. “I hated having to type all that stuff to go on Facebook.”

“Just let me be on the Internet already.”

The change drew some grumbles from the technical crowd, an overwhelmingly small minority of Internet users.

Pizza Hut and Audi have already changed the URLs in their commercials to simply read pizzahut/ and audi/. Other brands are expected to follow suit.
